Since its "Year of the Reader" campaign in 1977, the Center for the Book's reading promotion campaigns have raised national awareness about the importance of reading and created new partnerships for the Library of Congress. The "Building a Nation of Readers" campaign culminates in 2000, the year of the Library of Congress's bicentennial.

EARLY FILM FROM THE FRONT
The Library has posted 68 motion pictures produced during the Spanish-American War and Philippine Revolution in its American Memory collections. -

As part of their work on the Women's History Resource Guide, a team of Library specialists report on the groundbreaking Woman Suffrage Parade of 1913. -
THE YEAR IN REVIEW
1997 was marked by historical milestones as well as important achievements at the Library. -
VISIONARY VOLUME
The commemorative edition of Biography of the Blind won a gold medal design award from the Art Directors' Club of Metropolitan Washington. -
SWANN GALLERY
The new Caroline and Erwin Swann Gallery of Caricature and Cartoon opened Feb. 25 in the Jefferson Building with an exhibition, "Monstrous Craws and Character Flaws."
