Statement by the Press Secretary

The United States delegation to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children will be headed by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson and Secretary of Education Roderick Paige.      The Special Session will take place in New York on September 19-21, 2001, immediately prior to the United Nations General Assembly.  The United States looks upon the Special Session on Children as an opportunity to work together with other nations to set the coming decade's priorities for children in the areas of health, nutrition, basic education, and protection from exploitation and armed conflict.
