Summary

A special study was prepared to provide a background for considering current economic devlopments, and to help analyze issues or programs where national economic activity is a significant factor. The behavior of such key macroeconomic variables as interest rates, unemployment rates, and growth rates of output, money supply, and prices is traced from World War II. The fiscal and monetary policies pursued by the federal government are also described and analyzed.
