Muppets Featured on New Center for Book "Building a Nation of Readers" Poster and Bookmark December 5, 1997

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy team up to build a tower of books and a better nation in a colorful "Building a Nation of Readers" poster recently produced by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and the American Library Association.

"'Building a Nation of Readers' is the center's national reading promotion theme for the years 1997-2000," said Center for the Book Director John Y. Cole. "The theme, which emphasizes the importance of reading to our democratic way of life, coincides with the Library of Congress's plans for celebrating its bicentennial in the year 2000. We are grateful to the Jim Henson Company for donating the art work and to the American Library Association for the production of this delightful poster."

The 22-by-34 inch poster is available for $9 in the Library of Congress Sales Shop and by mail from the American Library Association (Item #5024-0797). Bookmarks, measuring 2 by 6 inches, are available for $6 for a pack of 100 from the American Library Association (Item #5024-0897). Call (800) 545-2433 and press 7 for toll-free orders from the American Library Association.

The Center for the Book was established in 1977 to stimulate public interest in books, reading, and libraries. For information about the center, its activities, and products, visit its site on the World Wide Web at: http://www.loc.gov/loc/cfbook/.
