International Congress on Health Effects of Hazardous Wastes
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR),
in collaboration with the Emory University School of Public Health
and the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics, will
hold the first International Congress on the Health Effects of
Hazardous Waste. The congress, which will be cosponsored by the
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the
Environmental Protection Agency, will be held May 3-6, 1993, in
Atlanta.
This congress will provide an opportunity for biomedical and
environmental scientists, epidemiologists, physicians, risk
assessors, and toxicologists to evaluate and disseminate
state-of-the-art information about the human health effects
associated with exposure to hazardous waste. Topics will include
populations at risk, exposure assessment (including environmental
measurements, modeling, and use of biologic markers), health
effects resulting from exposure to toxic substances (including
toxicologic studies, health-effects studies, diagnostic strategies,
and risk analysis), mitigation strategies, risk communication,
technology and information transfer, health implications of
emerging technologies, gaps in data, and research needs.
