The White House Office of the Press Secretary today made the following announcement:

The President intends to nominate Rebecca O. Campoverde to be Assistant Secretary of Education for Legislation and Congressional Affairs. She is currently the Deputy Chief of Staff for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce and has been with the committee since 1999. From 1993 to 1998 she worked as a private government relations consultant, and served at the U.S. Department of Education from 1986 to 1993 in several positions including Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary and Director of the Executive Secretariat from 1991 to 1993. She is a graduate of Northwestern University.
Campoverde was also previously the deputy assistant secretary for legislation and congressional affairs at the Education Department. Regarding her selection by President Bush, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige said: "Becky Campoverde was an important part of the overwhelming bipartisan victory of H.R. 1, and I am looking forward to working with her as we move ahead with the rest of President Bush's legislative agenda for providing all children with access to a quality education. Becky's experience and her strong ties to this department and to the Congress will make her an important part of the team effort making No Child Left Behind a reality."
