U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige announced today that C. Todd Jones has been selected to serve as deputy assistant secretary of education for enforcement in the department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR).

Jones, a native of Pueblo, Colo., will be responsible for directly supervising four OCR enforcement divisions and 12 enforcement offices located around the country.

Prior to joining the Education Department, Jones most recently served as president of the National Education Knowledge Industry Association in Washington, D.C., where he worked with a broad range of organizations dedicated to developing new programs and services to promote student achievement. From 1995 - 1997, he was a staff member for the Committee on Education and Workforce in the House of Representatives and served as associate counsel to the American Rehabilitation Association from 1991 - 1995.

Jones received an undergraduate degree and juris doctor from the University of Denver and a master of laws at Georgetown University Law Center, in Washington, D.C.

Earlier this week, President Bush announced his intent to nominate Gerald Reynolds as the assistant secretary for civil rights.
