Luminary Lectures @ Your Library Series To Be Offered at the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress' Public Service Collections Directorate is announcing its spring schedule for the "Luminary Lectures @ Your Library" lecture series. The lectures are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
The spring lecture series will begin with Richard Cox, a professor in the Department of Library and Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, discussing "Records, Documents, and Stuff in the Digital Era" at 10:30 a.m. - noon, Friday, March 7, in the Pickford Theater, third floor of the James Madison Building at 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C.
Laura Campbell, associate librarian for Strategic Initiatives at the Library of Congress, will discuss "The National Digital Preservation Program: Challenges and Solutions," from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 21, in the Mumford Room located on the sixth floor of the Madison Building.
"Transforming the Urban Public Library" will be the topic of a lecture presented by Molly Raphael, director of the District of Columbia Public Library. The lecture will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, April 18, in the Pickford Theater.
Siva Vaidhyanathan, assistant professor of Culture and Communication at New York University, will deliver a lecture titled "The Anarchist in the Library: The Moral Panics over Copyright and Free Speech" from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, May 9, in Dining Room A, located on the sixth floor of the Madison Building.
The Luminary Lectures series at the Library of Congress is part of a national, public education initiative called "@ your library -- the Campaign for America's Libraries," which is sponsored by the American Library Association. The Library of Congress, along with libraries in all 50 states, is participating in this multiyear campaign designed to showcase public, school, academic and special libraries nationwide and to remind the public that libraries are dynamic, modern community centers for learning information and entertainment.
