Inspector General, Jerry Bridges (Acting)

On September 10, 2008, President George W. Bush designated Jerry Bridges as Acting Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Education. From July 2006, Mr. Bridges served as Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service, responsible for all financial management activities of the Corporation, including accounting, budget, financial reporting, procurement, grants, administrative management functions and internal controls.

Prior to 2006, Mr. Bridges served as the Controller of Johns Hopkins University, a position he held for more than 18 years. Prior to that, he served in a variety of financial accounting and audit capacities for several federal agencies, including the U.S. Information Agency, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and the U.S. Department of Defense, HEW and State. Mr. Bridges is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and Maryland. He received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Kentucky.
