DoD, government credit cards to change banks

The Department of Defense is scheduled to switch government travel, purchase and fleet credit cards from Bank of America to CitiBank in November.

The DoD is switching banks due to Bank of America’s contract expiring, said 1st Lt. Nicole Bastian, the Headquarters & Service Battalion adjutant, from Tampa, Fla.

The Bank of America cards will expire Nov. 29 at 11:59 p.m., and the newly issued CitiBank cards will activate Nov. 30 at midnight.

“Hopefully, people are beginning to get their new cards in the mail,” said Gunnery Sgt. Ferman McLaughlin, the administration chief for H&S Bn.

DoD Web site www.defensetravel.dod.mil states new cards are being mailed throughout the summer to mailing addresses on file with Bank of America.

Servicemembers with an account who do not receive their new cards by Oct. 31 are encouraged to call 228-2361 or 228-3084.

“The same rules will still apply to the new cards,” added McLaughlin, of Vero Beach, Fla.

This change will not affect regulations already in place, such as spending amounts, and the same services will be provided.
