Speaker Biography: Russell Freedman is the author of several award-winning biographies and histories for children and young adults. His most recent book is "Give Me Liberty: The Story of the Declaration of Independence." His "Lincoln: A Photobiography" won the 1988 Newbery Medal. "The Wright Brothers: How They Invented the Airplane" and "Eleanor Roosevelt: A Life of Discovery" were both Newbery Honor Books. "Martha Graham: A Dancer's Life" was a 1998 Boston Horn nonfiction honor book. Freedman is the winner of the 1998 Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal, administered by the Association for Library Service to Children and given to an author whose books, published in the United States, have over the years made a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.
