Oblique view of Lake Tahoe, CA-NV looking at a large glacial outwash fan

Return to Lake Tahoe Perspective Views

Lake Tahoe Perspective View, see caption below.

Oblique view of Lake Tahoe shaded-relief bathymetry looking at the southwestern margin of the lake. Emerald Bay is in the upper right of the image. The distance across the bottom of the image is approximately 4 km. The image has a vertical exaggeration of 3 times the horizontal distance. The colored region is the lake floor, while the gray-scale region is the surrounding land. The margin of the lake is draped in glacial outwash sediments deposited out in front of glaciers, and blocks of sediment pushed to the lake's margin by large glaciers about 160,000 years ago.
