Equipment Used
handsamplegrab
Purpose
Beach sampling
Information to be Derived
Beach morphology.
Summary
Two beach samples (#1 and #2) collected on Lanikai Beach.
Notes
Details of location of samples not given. Trades were blowing from the
ENE at 20-30 knots, with gusts to 40, and had been for several days. Some
scarping present as a result. Between 7 and 8 pm (moderate to high tides;
moderate fetch waves), four locations along Lanikai were sampled at 2 regions of
the beachface. In most cases, samples labeled #1 are the upper 5-6 cm of sand
collected ~0.5 m makai of the vegetation line; #2 is the upper 4 cm collected
from the high swash area. The swash was a bit steeper than usual, so samples
were taken rather high on it rather than at mid-swash.
