Purpose
We collected sediment samples using Alvin from the Sludge
Max Site in the 106 Mile Dumpsite for sewage sludge. Sample were
also collected from Grassle's Long-Term Station 6 by box coring,
and from the head of Hudson Canyon from Alvin. This is a cooperative
multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional program. Five dives were
completed. This cruise was part of the Ocean Exporation Initiative
that NOAA is proposing for future Federal funding.

Notes
The scientist for this 5-day leg will board a small boat on
Staten Island in the afternoon of September 14 and travel to Hudson
Canyon to meet and exchange personnel at sea early on September 15.
The Atlantis will return to the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum on
Manhattan on September 20. A press conference will be held at
0900 September 21 with tours of the ship to follow. Some USGS poster
displays are planned for view as the tours proceed.
