Raul A. Romaguera, DMD, MPH, is the National Chlamydia Screening Coordinator in the Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP) at NCHHSTP. Dr. Romaguera has over 25 years of experience in the Public Health Service at the Health Resources and Services Administration and at CDC in the Divisions of Reproductive Health, Oral Health, and Public Health Surveillance and Informatics. He also has broad experience working on key preventive health issues with variety of health care settings in the public and private sector.
Prior to joining DSTDP in May 2008, Dr. Romaguera was Acting Associate Director for Health Disparities at NCHHSTP and Associate Director for Prevention in Care in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention where he developed strategies to incorporate HIV prevention services into clinical practice.
Dr. Romaguera began his career in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1982 as dental provider and clinical director of a community health center in a rural community in Puerto Rico. In 1988, he joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service program, where he designed and implemented maternal and child health and contraceptive prevalence surveys in various countries in Central and South America. Dr. Romaguera has worked with the Mexican Ministry of Health, U.S. border states and the Pan American Health Organization in the development and implementation of a U.S.-Mexico Border Health Initiative, and has coordinated and provided technical assistance activities and training to state, local and international health officials on the integration of HIV prevention into clinical services, including family planning clinics and primary care settings.
Dr. Romaguera received a doctorate in dentistry and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Puerto Rico. He completed a residency in dental public health in the Division of Oral Health at CDC.
