S-1-99-MB map of where navigation equipment operated

Information Specialist
Carolyn Degnan
Crew
Steve Eittreim Chief Scientist, USGS Western Region
Equipment Used
vibratingcore
Purpose
Core through Holocene mud layer on shelf and recover material
from beneath underlying shelf-wide unconformity believed to represent
Holocene transgression event.
Core and recover material filling inner-shelf paleochannels that represent
buried channels cut during lower sealevel stands.
Information to be Derived
Age and composition of material underlying shelf unconformity through C-14 dating or other analyses. Age and composition of material filling paleochannels.
Summary
22 Cores were recovered averaging about 2.5m in length with the longest, 5.8m in length.
Notes
Vibracoring was carried out with the services of TEG Oceanographic
Services of Santa Cruz, owner and operator of the Vibracore system. Weather
conditions were mostly good. Found operations viable up to wind conditions of
15 knots. No anchoring required; manuevered, using DGPS, to stay on positions
of sites selected along existing seismic lines.
Got Help? For S-1-99-MB, we would appreciate any information on -- contract, days at sea, dive count, funding, kms of navigation, NGDC Info, organization, owner, ports, project number, publications, scanned materials, seismic description, station count, station description, submersible, tabulated info.
