Africana Bibliographic Alert Service
Eastern Africa and Western Indian Ocean Region (ABAS-EAIO)
Compiled by

Area Specialist for East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean Region
African Section, African and Middle Eastern Division, Library of Congress
What is ABAS-EAIO?
- It was begun in January 2003, as a free service to distribute by
e-mail to scholars and institutions lists of recently published materials
about
Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean region cataloged at the Library
of Congress. Beginning
in
June 2005, the lists are posted on the pertinent country pages
of the African and Middle Eastern Division web site (see: http://www.loc.gov/rr/amed/amedctylng.html ).
- Based on a complex query submitted using Pro-Cite bibliographic software
and the Z39.50 protocol, these 16 lists of citations were compiled
by searching the Library of Congress online catalog for relevant
publications. In addition to materials about the country, the results
may also include
materials published in the country which concern other geographic
areas.
- Because of the limitations inherent in any online catalog search,
do not rely on these documents as comprehensive or authoritative
lists
of recent materials in the Library of Congress collections. The
lists are intended to give the reader only an idea of the wealth
of materials
which may be available for consultation. Search the Library’s
catalog for a more complete description of the status and availability
of each
item at: http://catalog.loc.gov.
- The following lists are available on the AMED country pages or
by email:
EAIO Region
(includes works with a broad regional
focus on Eastern Africa, Indian Ocean Region, Horn of Africa,
and the Red Sea)
