AFRICAN SECTION PAMPHLET COLLECTION

The African Section Pamphlet Collection supports the research interests of African studies scholars and researchers.   The collection, covering 50 countries and eight regions, is only available for viewing in the African and Middle Eastern Division Reading Room.  This collection is gradually being brought under bibliographic control.  A list of a significant portion  of  material  available for  this  country, is searchable through a finding aid by author, title, country, subject and keyword.  Please note that the finding aid is a work-in-progress

The African Section Pamphlet collection is an on‑going collection, currently housed in approximately 600 archival boxes, arranged geographically by region and country.  Materials are divided by broad subjects, and subdivided within those subjects.  Since 1960, the African Section staff started saving this material.

The material in the collection was printed and distributed in limited quantities which makes much of it rare and unique.

 It includes:

  • Campaign and election paraphernalia
  • Creative literature
  • Language studies
  • Histories
  • Folded maps
  • Tourist literature
  • Government reports
  • Economic development studies
  • Academic publications and papers
  • Conference papers
  • Speeches of national leaders
  • Bibliographies,
  • Publishers’ catalogs,
  • Biographical clippings

       And other miscellaneous material
