Crew
Gene Shinn Chief Scientist, USGS St. Petersburg
Randolph Steinen Driller/core Inspector/geologist, Univ. of Connecticut
Steve Tennis Deck Hand, USGS-WRD Miami
Equipment Used
drillcore
Purpose
To determine if sewage effluents injected in Class V wells onshore are reaching offshore reef areas via underground flow.
Information to be Derived
Determine the subsurface lithofacies and their porosity to evaluate the possibility of groundwater flow through the region. Groundwater chemistry including: salinity, nutrients and bacteria.
Summary
Drilled seven cores and installed wells in the upper and middle Florida Keys.
Notes
CAPTAIN'S LADY (50 ft charter) used with HALIMEDA (small boat).
