Purpose
Beach sampling
Information to be Derived
Beach morphology.
Summary
Sample L1-1 - ~1 m from posts on north property side of home (rocks; no
veg line), dry); Sample L1-2 - high swash / wet-dry line, damp but not
water-soaked sand (likely extent of last high tide).
Notes
Kaelepulu Street access at large house with columns. Trades were
blowing from the ENE at 20-30 knots, with gusts to 40, and had been for several
days. Some scarping present as a result. Between 4 and 7 pm (moderate tides,
moderate to large fetch waves), four locations along Lanikai Beach were sampled
at 2 regions of the beach face. In most cases, samples labeled #1 are the upper
5-6 cm of sand collected ~0.5 m makai of the vegetation line; #2 is the upper 4
cm of sand collected from the high swash area. The swash was a bit steeper than
usual, so samples were taken rather high on it rather than at mid-swash. The
main street running along the shore in Lanikai is Mokulua Drive, and the samples
are named by the cross streets at each of the access paths.
