It lists braille magazines and books available through a network of cooperating libraries. The braille edition also lists recorded books, giving abbreviated annotations. News about library services is featured in both editions. The annotated list in this issue is limited to titles recently added to the national collection, which contains thousands of fiction and nonfiction titles, including classics, biographies, gothics, mysteries, and how-to and self-help guides. Two new books from National Braille Press have been announced. Touch the Stars II is an astronomy book that has been adapted for visually impaired stargazers. The book is written by Noreen Grice, an astronomer at Boston's Museum of Science, and features nineteen new tactile illustrations by Shirley Keller and Irma Goldberg, of Creative Adaptations for Learning. Traditionally visual concepts such as constellations, comets, nebulae, and eclipses become tangible through text and touch. With the help of the carefully rendered graphics, readers will find out what the constellation Orion looks like, how the moon waxes and wanes, what happens during a lunar or solar eclipse, and how stars are formed and what patterns they make in the sky. Touch the Stars II also includes a new foreword by Kent Cullers, a researcher at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, who is the world's first totally blind astronomer, and who served as the inspiration for the blind astronomer in the film Contact.
