The Washington State Partnership for Character Education is supporting the development of local models for character education. Five geographically representative sites serving diverse school-age populations work together to develop effective strategies for character education and to describe and document the change process at the student and school level.

Activities at each site include:

  1. holding community forums to develop local partnerships and define character traits;
  2. selecting specific strategies for integrating character education into the curriculum in support of the state learning goals;
  3. developing a product that describes the strategies and why the strategies worked well in that setting or with a particular student population;
  4. supporting teacher training and involvement; and
  5. evaluating and disseminating all activities and products.
