Rescue reservists return from lifesaving mission

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A group of approximately 50 Air Force reservists from the 920th Rescue Wing here returned home Jan. 5 after a 4-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The group, which included helicopter pilots, crewmembers and maintenance specialists, deployed in August on the second leg of a 14-month Joint Expeditionary Tasking mission to support the U.S. Army medical evacuation operation in Afghanistan.

Game plan offers assignment choices for reserve colonels
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Certain qualified Air Force Reserve line colonels will soon be able to select from an a la carte of job vacancies when a new website goes online in January 2009.

The Web-based job announcements are part of a program called the Reserve Line Colonel Assignments Gameplan 2009. The game plan is a first for Air Force Reserve Command. 

Air Force Reserve names top finance people
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Air Force Reserve Command selected three offices and a dozen people for command financial management and comptroller awards for 2008.

The financial analysis office and financial services office for the 440th Airlift Wing, Pope AFB, N.C., were named the best offices in the command. The 911th AW, Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station, Pa., has the best financial management and comptroller organization.


300 and counting -- rescue unit saves lives in Afghanistan

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force reservists with the 920th Rescue Wing here have saved more than 300 U.S. troops since deploying to Afghanistan in February 2008.

The Air Force Reserve Command unit is flying HH-60 helicopter missions in support the U.S. Army medical evacuation operation.

Airmen from the wing and its sister units in Arizona and Oregon have flown 1,181 sorties and saved 313 people, according to a wing intelligence report.

Association offers officer development courses
ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Twice a year the Reserve Officers Association and Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command work together to provide professional development opportunities for reserve officers.

The first program takes place in conjunction with the ROA Mid-Winter Conference and Reserve Component Expo Feb. 1-4 in Washington, D.C.

AFSO 21 project yields award payload

TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Oklahoma -- An AFSO 21 project prompted by Col. Jeffrey Glass, 507th Air Refueling Wing commander, has resulted in a payload of Air Force awards for wing members. 

"I have known for a long time how some Airman may go 15 to 20 years without receiving an Air Force award," Colonel Glass said. "It's appalling how some people have slipped through the system without receiving a nod for their hard work.
