Deadline Approaches for Military Photography Contest

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 1996 – Deadline is March 1 to enter the 1995 Military Photographers of the Year competition. Judging begins March 27 at the Defense Information School, Fort George G. Meade, Md.

All active duty, Reserve and National Guard photographers and photojournalists in the still and video fields may compete. Categories include combat camera (training or realworld), picture story, news, sports, portraits, features, and illustrative and pictorial photography.

In addition, photographers may compete in a portfolio category. To qualify, photographers must submit one photo from six of the eight categories. A picture story and a combat camera image are mandatory.

Entries must be postmarked by March 1 and sent to:

Top honors in last year's contest went to SSgt. Kenneth D. Wright of Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and Petty Officer 2nd Class Peter D. Watson of the Navy Broadcast Service in Keflavik, Iceland. Over 110 photographers from all services submitted nearly 1,000 entries in still and video categories last year.

The American Forces Information Service and the National Press Photographers Association cosponsor the annual competition.
