WASHINGTON, Sept. 20, 2004 – U.S. forces conducted a successful precision strike Sept. 20 -- the second within two days -- on construction equipment used by the enemy to build fighting positions outside the Iraqi city of Fallujah, according to a Multinational Force Iraq news release.
Using intelligence reports, U.S. forces accurately targeted the equipment while safeguarding the lives of Iraqi citizens, according to the release. In other news, U.S. Task Force Danger soldiers in Iraq seized anti-government suspects and weaponry during Sept. 20 operations near Balad. The 1st Infantry Division troops collected 26 rocket-propelled grenade rounds and a recoilless rifle from a car after it was stopped at a security checkpoint in the town of Abayach, near Balad. The detainees were taken to a Multinational Force Iraq detention facility for questioning. U.S. 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division troops detained 16 suspected insurgents and seized various weapons and munitions during a Sept. 19 operation in Mosul, Iraq, according to another MNF-Iraq release. The American troops found one Russian-made machine gun, one German-made bolt- action rifle, one stun-taser, and two AK-47 automatic rifles, as well as ammunition and intelligence documents, according to the release. No U.S. troops were injured during the operation.
