WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 1995 – While the majority of the 20,000 U.S. troops participating in Operation Joint Endeavor are from units in Europe, service members from the following stateside units were also identified for possible deployment to Bosnia: Fourth Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. Mission: Capable of rapid deployment; can be airdropped or delivered to meet any mission. Personnel: 750 362nd Engineer Company, Fort Bragg, N.C. Mission: Combat engineers able to deploy by land, sea or air as part of a combined arms team to conduct mobility, countermobility and survivability operations. Personnel: 180 586th Engineer (Floating Bridge) Company, Fort Benning, Ga. Mission: Hauls and constructs 705 foot floating bridges that can cross 220 vehicles per hour. Personnel: 180 54th Quartermaster Company, Fort Lee, Va. Mission: To establish and operate a mortuary affairs collection point and theater evacuation point to receive, process and evacuate remains and their personal effects. Personnel: 15 41st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment, Fort Bliss, Texas Mission: Responds to and renders safe conventional, chemical and unexploded munitions or hazards within the theater of operation. Personnel: 20 61st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment, Fort Sill, Okla. Mission: Responds to and renders safe conventional, chemical and unexploded munitions or hazards within the theater of operations. Personnel: 20 546th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Control Team, Fort Sam Houston, Texas Mission: Serves as the command and control unit for U.S. Army explosive ordnance disposal assets assigned to the theater. Coordinates response of explosive ordnance disposal assets to unexploded munition hazards in the theater. Personnel: Six 84th Combat Stress Detachment, Fort Carson, Colo. Mission: Deploys with combat units. Provide preventive services to decrease the number of combat stress casualties and to facilitate an early return of soldiers to duty. The detachment has three prevention teams and a restoration unit. Personnel: 24 mental health professionals to include psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapy officer and technicians, psychiatric technicians and behavioral science specialists. 102nd Quartermaster Company (Petroleum, Oil, Lubricants), Fort Campbell, Ky. Mission: Provide fuels and lubricants to field units. Personnel: 150 403rd Transportation Company, Fort Bragg, N.C. Mission: Responsible for transshipping cargo, for transshipment of cargo at highway, rail barge and air terminals. Also operates the Bragg green ramp air field operations. Personnel: 215 soldiers 55th Signal Company (Combat Camera) Fort Meade, Md. Mission: Photographically documents all historical and operational events for the task force for permanent visual record of the peace implementation process. Personnel: 84 B Company, 319th Military Intelligence Battalion (Joint Surveillance Target Acquisition Radar System), Fort Bragg, N.C. Mission: Provides intelligence and connnunications support to the corps headquarters, joint task force and subordinate elements. Personnel: 52 303rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas Mission: Provide moving target imagery and intelligence to the ground commander by providing a link via JSTARS. JSTARS is an airborne intelligence system mounted on a Boeing 707 that uses radar to locate equipment and personnel moving on the ground. Personnel: 50 or more 55th Engineer Company (Medium Girder Bridge), Fort Riley, Kan. Mission: Haul and construct medium girder bridges for use by deploying forces. Personnel: 110 soldiers
