Summary: This document presents Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Standards for prekindergarten in three parts: (1) Preamble and Guiding Principles, (2) Standards, and (3) Crosswalks. The standards are designed as a framework for quality in pre-K programs and provide guidance about what children should know or be able to do when they enter kindergarten. The standards are inclusive of all children. The standards can be used to: (1) inform teachers and administrators about curriculum and assessment and guide the selection of program materials; (2) inform parents of appropriate expectations for children who are ready to enter kindergarten; and (3) support community early care and education partnerships by providing a common framework for discussions about curriculum, assessment, and transition into kindergarten. Key learning areas include: Approaches to Learning, Creative Arts, Language and Literacy, Logical-Mathematical, Personal Social, Physical-Health, Program Partnerships, Science, and Social Studies.
