Matthew Levinger is a program officer in the Education and Training Center/Domestic, where he is developing training programs on conflict analysis and prevention for foreign policy professionals. From 2005 to 2007, he was director of the Academy for Genocide Prevention at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Previously, he was associate professor of history at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon; he has also taught at Stanford University. His research and teaching have focused on the history of nationalism and revolutionary political theory in modern Europe, as well as the history of genocide during the twentieth century. He received his B.A. from Haverford College and his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago. In 2003-2004 he was a William C. Foster Fellow at the Department of State, where he worked on initiatives for atrocities and early warning and prevention in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and the Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
