Center for the Book To Participate in "New York is Book Country" Book Fair on September 27

For the sixth consecutive year, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress will participate in "New York Is Book Country," one of the nation's largest and busiest book fairs. On Sunday, Sept. 27, on Fifth Avenue between 48th and 57th streets, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the center will share exhibit booths with two of its reading promotion partners: Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) and the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). More than 250,000 book lovers are expected to attend the fair.

Center for the Book staff members will distribute information and answer questions about the Library of Congress and the Center for the Book at both booths. A highlight at the Center for the Book/FOLUSA booth, located between 56th and 57th streets, will be a "readathon" for children featuring well-known authors as well as fair-goers. The Center for the Book/AIGA booth, between 49th and 50th streets opposite Rockefeller Center, will present the 1997 winners of the 50 Books/50 Covers competition for the best designed book and book covers. These books and covers will be on view as part of a traveling exhibit later in the year.
