Clifford T. Cohen Named Director of Operations, Library Services

Associate Librarian for Library Services Winston Tabb has announced that Clifford T. Cohen has been named Director of Operations in the Library of Congress's Library Services Service Unit beginning Aug. 2. In the newly created position, Mr. Cohen supervises the division's administrative staff and serves as a liaison between Library Services and the offices responsible for the Library's internal operations.

"Cliff's unusually strong and varied background in strategic planning, systems analysis and design management will make his skills an invaluable addition to the Library Services management team," said Mr. Tabb.

Mr. Cohen's administrative duties also include supervising the Network Development and MARC Standards Office, the Automation Planning and Liaison Office, and the Technical Processing and Automation Instruction Office. In his role as Library Services liaison, Mr. Cohen will coordinate the offices in charge of finance and budget, human resources, labor relations, automation, space, training, and planning and evaluation.

Mr. Cohen most recently worked in the Library's National Digital Library Program. He was the Project Coordinator for the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition, which provides awards to libraries to digitize their unique collections and make them available through the Library's Web site at www.loc.gov.

Before working for the Library of Congress, Mr. Cohen was a senior manager in Ernst & Young's management and information systems consulting department for 12 years. In addition to consulting for organizations such as Caterpillar, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, MCI and numerous financial institutions, Mr. Cohen also worked on projects for government agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, and U.S. Postal Service.

Mr. Cohen received a B.S. degree in accounting from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
