Clifford T. Cohen Named Director of Operations, Library Services
Associate Librarian for Library Services Winston Tabb
has announced that Clifford T. Cohen has been named Director
of Operations in the Library of Congress's Library Services
Service Unit beginning Aug. 2. In the newly created
position, Mr. Cohen supervises the division's administrative
staff and serves as a liaison between Library Services and
the offices responsible for the Library's internal
operations.
"Cliff's unusually strong and varied background in
strategic planning, systems analysis and design management
will make his skills an invaluable addition to the Library
Services management team," said Mr. Tabb.
Mr. Cohen's administrative duties also include
supervising the Network Development and MARC Standards
Office, the Automation Planning and Liaison Office, and
the Technical Processing and Automation Instruction Office.
In his role as Library Services liaison, Mr. Cohen will
coordinate the offices in charge of finance and budget,
human resources, labor relations, automation, space,
training, and planning and evaluation.
Mr. Cohen most recently worked in the Library's
National Digital Library Program. He was the Project
Coordinator for the Library of Congress/Ameritech National
Digital Library Competition, which provides awards to
libraries to digitize their unique collections and make them
available through the Library's Web site at www.loc.gov.
Before working for the Library of Congress, Mr. Cohen
was a senior manager in Ernst & Young's management and
information systems consulting department for 12 years.
In addition to consulting for organizations such as
Caterpillar, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, MCI and numerous
financial institutions, Mr. Cohen also worked on projects
for government agencies including the Environmental
Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, and U.S.
Postal Service.
Mr. Cohen received a B.S. degree in accounting from
Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
