Nineteenth-Century Teapot
about 1850

"Rebekah-at-the-Well"
Made by Edwin Bennett of Baltimore, MD, this brown "Rockingham-type" glazed earthenware teapot illustrates the Old Testament story of the virtuous Rebekah waiting by the well. There she met Abraham's servant who, with God's guidance, selected her to be the wife of his master's only son, Isaac.
