Relevant Professional Experience:
After a 14-year career with IBM, Dr. Kun served as the Director of Medical Systems Technology and Strategic Planning at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He also served as the Senior IT Advisor to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, where he formulated the IT vision and was the lead staff for HPCC program and Telehealth. As a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) between 1999 and 2001, he was the Senior Computer Scientist for the Health Alert Network for Bioterrorism and later the Acting Chief Information Technology Officer for the National Immunization Program (NIP), where he formulated its IT vision in October 2000.
Scholarship:
Dr. Kun has lectured on medical and public health informatics, information technology, and biomedical engineering in over 50 countries. He has also served on the advisory and editorial boards of many magazines, professional journals and books. Dr. Kun has been an invited speaker over 150 times, and has published extensively on medical informatics and biomedical information technology. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). For the IEEE-USA he is the Chairman of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee and Chairman of the Bioterrorism and Homeland Security Working Group. He is on the Board of Directors of AIMBE. He is one of the authors of the Report to Congress on Telemedicine and on HIPAA.
