The Spirit of ’76
This painting of the "Spirit of '76" by Archibald McNeal Willard (1836-1918), most likely painted in 1875, is the basis for the chromolithograph published by J.F. Ryder of Cleveland, Ohio, and was printed by Ryder for the Centennial of 1876. It is the first completed version of "Yankee Doodle" later to become known as "The Spirit of '76".
