New technologies have transformed the ways we do research. Automatic capture of citation information from Web pages is now possible. Dan Cohen and Trevor Owens, Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, demonstrate Zotero, an easy-to-use Firefox extension that helps collect, manage, and cite research sources.
Speaker Biography: Dan Cohen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Art History at George Mason University and the Director of Research Projects at the Center for History and New Media. His own research is in European and American intellectual history, the history of science (particularly mathematics), and the intersection of history and computing. At the Center for History and New Media he has co-directed the September 11 Digital Archive and the Echo project, and has developed software tools for scholars, teachers, and students.
Speaker Biography: Trevor Owens is the technology evangelist for Zotero. He received his undergraduate degree in history and the history of science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently working on a master's degree in history at George Mason University. His undergraduate thesis examined the history of children's biographies of Marie Curie and Albert Einstein. His historical interests lay at the intersection of the history of science, the history of education and the history of children's media.
