President Bush to Recognize Wisconsin Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Lila Cody upon arrival in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Cody, 61, is an active volunteer with St. Vincent Hospital.

President George W. Bush will meet Lila Cody when he arrives in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Cody, 61, is an active volunteer with St. Vincent Hospital.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corps to help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Cody, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

A volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital for the past 22 years, Cody delivers meals to shut-ins through the hospital’s Mobile Meals program. For the past nine years, Cody has chaired the hospital auxiliary’s Historic House Walk, which has raised approximately $120,000 for projects in the hospital’s cancer center. Cody also serves on the Mission Effectiveness Committee, which honors outstanding employees and volunteers. Cody has volunteered in the hospital’s Emergency Center and helped organize test calls for Lifeline, an emergency telephone system for the elderly and those with special needs. She is also the editor of the hospital auxiliary newsletter.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
