President Bush to Recognize Ohio Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Carol McClure when he arrives in Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday, October 28, 2004. McClure, 71, is an active volunteer with Fisher House at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like McClure, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
A volunteer at Fisher House for the past 11 years, McClure is the volunteer coordinator -- recruiting and training new volunteers. She also writes health articles for the Fisher House newsletters, makes snacks for guests and volunteers, and takes patients to doctor appointments or on errands. Fisher House Foundation donates and builds “comfort homes,” on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers that enable family members to be close to loved ones who are hospitalized. In addition, McClure is a member of the Ramblin’ Roses, a dance team that performs country line dancing at retirement homes.
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
