President Bush to Recognize Nashua Senior for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Lawrence Jeffery when he arrives in
Manchester, New Hampshire, on Thursday, March 25, 2004. For more than 15 years,
Jeffery has been an active volunteer with SCORE Counselors to America's Small
Business, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Earlier this year, the USA Freedom Corps – President Bush’s initiative to
engage all Americans in service to their neighbors and their nation by
volunteering two years or 4,000 hours – celebrated its second anniversary. Since
January 2002, President Bush has met with more than 260 individuals around the
country, like Jeffery, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
Since 1988, Jeffery has been an active volunteer with the Merrimack Valley
chapter of SCORE Counselors to America's Small Business, a nonprofit
organization that provides free business counseling to current business owners
and individuals interested in starting their own small business. Each week,
Jeffery counsels clients on important business issues such as evaluating
business needs, reviewing financial documents, and identifying potential
profits. Jeffery also counsels individuals across the United States through the
on-line SCORE business counseling program, sharing information with clients
through e-mail.
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to
foster an American culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through
the USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the
call to service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect
our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion around the
world. Interested volunteers can find information on the USA Freedom Corps at
www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by
calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
