President Bush to Recognize South Carolina Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Robin Longino upon arrival in Greenville,
South Carolina, on Monday, November 10, 2003. Longino has been an active
volunteer with Hands On Greenville for the past four years.
Earlier this year, President Bush celebrated the first anniversary of the USA
Freedom Corps – his initiative to engage all Americans in service to their
neighbors and their nation. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the
country, like Longino, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
Since 1999, Longino has been an active volunteer with Hands On Greenville, a
nonprofit organization that creates meaningful and flexible service
opportunities for individuals with busy schedules. Each year, Longino serves as
the project coordinator for “Hands On The Holidays,” where she coordinates
volunteers and business sponsors to provide gifts for foster children in
Greenville County. For the past three years, Longino has also participated in
“Hands On Greenville Day,” an annual day of service where more than 1,200
community volunteers donated more than 5,000 hours in volunteer service this
past year to help paint public schools, build wheel chair ramps for the disabled
and clean city and state parks.
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to
foster a culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through the USA
Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to
volunteer service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to
protect our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion
around the world. Interested volunteers can find opportunities in their own
neighborhoods through the USA Freedom Corps web site at
www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by
calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
