RE: IRS Mail-Out to Employers

Dear Colleague:

I want to express my appreciation to you and your organization for allowing Donna Bonar and Linda Deimike of my staff to speak with many of you at your recent National Unemployment Insurance Director's Meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida. As you may recall, they mentioned during the meeting that we were planning to send out an informational brochure on new hire reporting. For your information, we have enclosed a copy of that brochure.

The brochure will be included in the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) Winter quarterly mail-out to all employers nationwide. The brochure serves as an initial introduction to employers' new hire reporting responsibilities which were contained in the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. For those of you who were not able to attend the Florida meeting, we wanted to alert you to possible inquiries from your employers.

The IRS has informed us that their mail-out will be staggered, proceeding from the West (Alaska and Hawaii) to the East. Mailing will begin the week of November 25th, with a projected end-date of December 13.
