Unaccountables

JUL 24 1996 DC-96-36

TO ALL STATE IV-D DIRECTORS

Dear Colleague:

Enclosed please find the unaccountable cases (run against exhibit K) for those test tape cases you submitted to the Federal Tax Refund Offset Program for the 1997 processing year. These cases, after being sent to IRS for processing, are being returned as either "Name Does Not Agree", or "Invalid Combination of Name and SSN."

The unaccountable cases for the 1997 processing year test tapes have been sent to the Social Security Administrations's (SSA) Enumeration Verification System (EVS) to help identify and correct SSNs in which the numbers have been transposed or are slightly off. These corrected SSNs are also listed on the unaccountable tape so that the corrections can be made before submitting the final submittal tape to our office.

For those States issuing their own pre-offset notices, you will also find enclosed an address tape (run against exhibit P) to assist in the mailing of your pre-offset notices.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Special Collections Unit on (202) 401-9389.

Sincerely,

David Gray Ross

Deputy Director
