Shopping Center Vendors Seek Discount

11 December 2008

Nearly 200 vendors gathered in front of the Sovanna shopping center Thursday, protesting high fees in the face of declining business.

Vendors said fees for stalls and stores were high compared to other similar markets, such as Sorya, even though the shopping center was empty of customers.

One vendor who asked not to be named said she was losing $400 to $500 per month and said she was hoping for a discount from the center.

However, Chhap Rithy, an adviser to the general manager of the shopping center, said Sovanna was losing $40,000 per month.
