The second round of requests for proposals for BRIDGES, the International Diabetes Federation programme dedicated to funding translational research in diabetes, is now open. More information, including the template letter of intent, can be found at www.idfbridges.org.

Call for Nominations

The International Diabetes Federation is seeking the nomination of officers for the elections to be held at the General Council in Montreal, Canada, on 18 October 2009. Nominations can be submitted online between 19 January and 1 March 2009. More information.

IDF Centres of Education and Recognition Programme

The International Diabetes Federation is calling for applications from institutions and member organizations that have a recognized reputation in health professional education to form part of an international collaborative voluntary network to initiate, facilitate, conduct and coordinate high-quality education for healthcare professionals in diabetes and other related chronic diseases. The application submission process for the first round will remain open until Thursday, January 15 2009. It will open again on July 1 2009. More information.

Diabetes Education Modules

The IDF Consultative Section on Diabetes Education (DECS) developed a modular CD-ROM and paper-based resource containing more than 800 slides with detailed speaker notes. The modules include sections on the pathophysiology and classification of diabetes, psychological issues and behavioural change; nutritional issues, physical activity and self-management. The activity slides facilitate group work on a variety of diabetes therapies, and short- and long-term complications. The modules also contain questions and answers that can be used to gauge participant’s knowledge during presentations.
