Genesee Valley Audubon Society partners with Corps of Engineers

Lake: Mount Morris Dam

Partners: USACE; Genesee Valley Audubon Society

Partnership Type: Lease Agreement and Cooperating Association

Corps POC: Patricia A Hixon

Story: The Buffalo District US Army Corps of Engineers at Mount Morris Dam had a former dam tender dwelling that was sitting vacant. The Corps has partnered with the local chapter of the Audubon Society to take over the house and convert it to an environmental learning center in addition to setting up a retail store in the on site visitor center. The lease for the house was signed in fall of 04 and the retail store will open in May of 04. The GVAS (Genesee Valley Audubon Society) has already offered an array of interpretive programs and has a calendar of programs set through the rest of the year.
