The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Helps Make New Trail System Possible

Lake: Gull Lake Recreation Area

Partners: USACE; City of East Gull Lake

Corps POC: Gregg Struss, Park Manager

Story: A cooperative effort was created with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the start of a trail system in the community of East Gull Lake. The City of East Gull Lake and the Corps built an asphalt trail beginning at County Rd 70 that stretches across the dam into the entrance of the Gull Lake campground. The trail is approximately 1/2 mile long. The total cost of the trail, which is primarily on Government land, was about $14,000, of which the Corps paid $2,500. It was very well received in the community and primarily made County Rd 70 much safer. County Rd 70 had no shoulders on it, so it was very dangerous for pedestrians and bikers. The project was completed and put into use on July 2, 2002.
