Rights and Restrictions Information
Prints and Photographs Division, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., 20540-4730
Original drawings made by Frank Lloyd Wright may be restricted.
Access: Permitted; subject to P&P policy on serving
originals, which requires use of digital surrogates in preference
to the originals, when available.
Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying,
photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair
use"): Permitted;
subject to P&P copying guidelines, which prohibits xeroxing of
the drawings.
Publication and other forms of distribution: May be restricted.
Patrons wishing to publish or otherwise distribute drawings made
by Wright must conduct item-specific assessments of the rights which
may be associated with the specific pieces. Rights will vary depending
on such factors as whether the work was published, whether it was
unpublished (created for purposes other than distribution), and
whether it was created for a client as a "work for hire."
All information found on the drawing regarding publication and/or
copyright claimants has been recorded in the catalog record. Please
note the following:
- Drawings made by Wright for publication before 1923 (e.g., Ausgeführte
Bauten und Entwürfe von Frank Lloyd Wright [Berlin: Wasmuth,
1911]) are in the public domain.
- In general, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation claims rights
to his drawings. Contact information for the Foundation is:

may have been transferred to the client. (Wright transferred the
rights he held to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.)
