Announcing the Third National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing, and Media

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is pleased to announce the third annual National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing, and Media to be held August 11-13, 2009, at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta, GA. This conference brings together individuals representing academia, public health researchers and practitioners from federal and state government and the private sector, and provides a forum for collegial dialogue within and across these disciplines. The conference is an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues and shape the future of health communication, marketing, and media practice.

Conference Objectives:

  • Provide an environment to present findings and recommendations from health communication, marketing, and media research.
  • Offer participants an opportunity to network as well as promote information sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration within the health communication, marketing, and media communities.
  • Advance the practice of health communication, marketing, and media through sharing exemplary programs.
Abstract submissions for the 2009 Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media will be open in early January 2009. Abstracts for either an oral or poster presentation will be accepted.

New for the 2009 Conference

As a result of feedback from the 2008 Conference, the abstract submission process has been enhanced to offer three submission types – Research, Theory, and Practice/Program-Based. Authors will have the option of choosing from the following presentation types:

Single-presenter: Recommended presentation length is 15-20 minutes. Related subject proposals will be combined to make a 90 minute concurrent session.

Multiple-presenter: Total length of session is 90 minutes and includes 3-4 individuals who collectively submit a proposal based on a common theme or topic.

Poster: Poster sessions will be held at designated times during the conference to allow participants to view research findings and interact with authors.

The conference planning committee invites abstract submissions that address specific issues, approaches or strategies that contribute to the fields of health communication, marketing, and media, and address the latest in skills and competencies required by public health practitioners. We especially encourage abstracts that provide opportunities for engagement of all sectors and levels to share practice and research related to the following four subthemes:

  • Health Marketing: Nuts and Bolts and Beyond
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • New Frontiers – Trends and Technology
  • Partnerships/Collaborations – Synergistic Relationships
All presenting authors must register for the conference and are eligible for the early bird registration fee.
