Education Secretary Margaret Spellings calls on members of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to help close the educational achievement gap.

Clip #1:   ListenStream (:19)   DownloadDownload(1.9mb)

Transcript: I hope you will take a stand for our neediest children. And I hope you will ask tough questions about how Hispanic students are doing in your state. You must be their advocates. States need to know that the days when we looked past the achievement gap are over.

Clip #2:   ListenStream (:19)   DownloadDownload(1.9mb)

Transcript: These assessments help us see which students need extra help and where. Without annual assessments, there would be no way of measuring the effectiveness of reforms. And without measurement, there can be no accountability for results. As the saying goes, "What gets measured gets done."

Clip #3:   ListenStream (:17)   DownloadDownload(1.7mb)

Transcript: Study after study shows that education ranks as a top priority to the Hispanic community. The interest is there. And we must spread the word about the opportunities, options and resources that are available through No Child Left Behind.

Clip #4:   ListenStream (:15)   DownloadDownload(1.6mb)

Transcript: We can't know where students are struggling unless we expand annual assessments. We must measure student progress in at least three grades in high school so we can ensure no one falls behind just as they're nearing the finish line.
