Sudan Peace Act (Legislation)

Congress passed the Sudan Peace Act (P.L. 107-245) on October 21, 2002 to facilitate relief efforts and support a comprehensive peace process to stop the civil war in Sudan. The Act authorizes, among other provisions, assistance to support democratic governance and humanitarian programs to assist the parties in Sudan in finding a just, permanent peace to the conflict. The Sudan Peace Act requires the President to make a determination and certify within six months of enactment, and every six months thereafter, that the parties are negotiating in good faith and the peace process is moving forward.

The Department of State, in conjunction with the White House, submitted the following documents to Congress as required by the Sudan Peace Act (Public Law 107-245):
