Summary: This book is intended as a guide to help child care programs provide children with healthy and safe food and meet the nutrition standards in National Health and Safety Performance Standards: Guidelines for Out-of-Home Child Care Programs. Child care providers should provide a variety of foods, which will help children grow and develop. Foods should be provided that respect each child’s culture. Food should be offered every two to three hours to prevent children from feeling hungry. Food time should be fun and comfortable. Child care providers can serve as role models for healthy eating.
