Summary: Noting the considerable variation in state child care licensing regulations, this packet provides data on states' training requirements for child care licensing. Contents of the packet are: (1) an introductory article, "Training Requirements in Child Care Licensing that Promote a Career Development Approach," which includes extensive information on four example states (Massachusetts, Kansas, Vermont, and Colorado); (2) data tables on training requirements in licensing in 1998, including a summary sheet, requirements for teachers and master teachers in child care centers, requirements for directors of child care centers, and requirements for providers in small and large family child care homes; and (3) bar charts on training requirements in licensing in 1998, including specialized training in early childhood education (for teachers in centers, master teachers in centers, directors of centers, providers in small family care homes, and providers in large family care homes), annual ongoing hours for each of these groups, and minimum preservice training in early childhood education for these groups.
